In Which McPeak Considers Abandoning the Fruitarian Phase

Today is Friday, September 4th, and I have been a Fruitarian for four full days.  In spite of the fact that I have lost about 3 pounds on this experiment already, I am strongly considering giving up the "fight".  Because I think it might just be a fight for me all together.

Starting Tuesday evening, I started noticing that I was a little gassy and bloated.  Didn't really think much of it, went to bed and no big deal.  Wednesday afternoon it kicked in early.  I felt really nasty and uncomfortable.  Thursday morning I felt a little light-headed at the gym, and again felt nasty/uncomfortable that evening.  So I started some google research.  Namely, "can you eat too much fruit?" along with "why am I bloated from eating fruit?"

What I learned is that being a fruitarian might not be for everyone.  Fruit is full of fiber, which can make you bloated and gassy for limited amounts of time.  You know how you feel when you eat too many beans, right?  Fruit is also full of sugar, or fructose, which could be messing with my pancreas given that I just spent 30 days avoiding sugar and carbs like crazy.  Ashton Kutcher tried a fruitarian diet for 30 days to prepare for the Steve Jobs movie (another famous fruitarian) - by the way, didn't Steve Jobs die of pancreatic cancer - and he wound up in the hospital.

But then again, Michael Arnstein is "the" Fruitarian and he has been known to log 200 miles a week in ultra marathon training.  So it must definitely be an individual thing.  I absolutely need to reflect on this before I make a final decision.

But all is not lost!  As said before, I have lost three pounds just this week and if you follow me on Instagram, you know that I'm serving up some tasty treats in the house!  Monday night, a beautiful fruit salad with peaches, nectarines, pluots, and blueberries.

Tuesday night, watermelon and avocado salad with honey balsamic glaze.

Wednesday night, strawberry and spinach salad with strawberry balsamic dressing.
Thursday night, a recipe from Fully Raw Kristina featuring zucchini noodles (Zoodles!) with a mango avocado (and jalapeno!) dressing.  The jalapeno was my special touch!  Maybe a little too much heat, but it was yummy.

This weekend is a little unique for me, because tomorrow is my 21st wedding anniversary with my amazing hubby!  And a dinner date is in the works.  So I may take a fruitarian break for sure and see how the weekend winds up.  By Monday I'll decide if I want to continue on this path or do something new.

What do you guys think?  Stick with the fruit?  Change it up and just be a raw vegetarian?  Switch to vegan?  Go back to Keto?  Or do something else entirely?  Leave a comment and let me know :)

i think at this point you know how to listen to your body. if it's telling you being a strict fruitarian isn't for you, then stop. or modify the diet. find the fruits that work for you and don't eat as much of the others.
