A New To Do List

Yesterday, after reading up on some Mind Body Green stuff and watching the documentary FED UP, I made a new To-Do list and posted it on Facebook.  Here are some things I vowed to do before month's end:

1. make Raw Vegan Brownies
2. try a 10 Day Sugar Detox
3. Unfollow a few people on FB (sorry, can't take the negativity)
4. Try Intermittent Fasting
5. get fitted for Altra Shoes
6. Finish my poncho knitting project
7. Drink a Green Smoothie every day
8. Read a new book (Rich Roll's new cookbook doesn't count, though, LOL)
9. Run a 31 minute 5K
10. Have a daily moment of gratitude

It would make sense now that I should write about this stuff, since everything I'm claiming to do this year has to do with Becoming My Best Self.  Let's see where I can go with this:

1.  Make Raw Vegan Brownies:

I have printed this recipe multiple times in the past three months, but now that Nicole Antionette has blogged about making them, for some reason I feel like I HAVE to do this.  And hopefully it will be tonight, just in time for Administrative Professionals Day tomorrow!!

2.  Try a 10 Day Sugar Detox:

This is all the fault of FED UP.  Have you seen this movie?  It's angering and frustrating and uplifting all at the same time.  Katie Couric challenges everyone at the end of the film to do a 10 Day Sugar Detox.  So why not?
How do I get started?  By Clicking HERE.  Just three steps.  Seems easy enough.  I'll let y'all know when I start.  Sadly, it won't be today, LOL.

3.  Un-follow a Few People on Facebook:

This needed to be done because I find myself going to Facebook to see what my friends are doing and then I get frustrated because sometimes people share or say angry or mean things.  Granted, this doesn't happen all the time; but every now and then I just need a break.  This is NOT a Facebook "purge" as I've done in the past - I just need to move some of the darker feelings out of my daily feed.  That's all.

4.  Try Intermittent Fasting:

This is all my husband's fault!  His friend Phoebe shared this concept with him - and I had not actually heard of this "diet" plan before.  However, there are so many different kinds of programs and I'm not exactly sure I get any of them.  I think what would work for me is the concept of not eating anything after 6:30pm and then waiting until 9am or later to have "breakfast".  Then making sure my "big" meal is around 5:30pm while snacking during the day.  We'll see.  Charles and I must discuss this first.  It's alot of change for our household.

5.  Get fitted for ALTRA shoes:
OOHHH....so excited!  Have been dreaming about these shoes since I first heard about them on NO MEAT ATHLETE.  The toe box is foot shaped!  And the shoes are 100% vegan, no animal products whatsoever.  I can't believe it's almost time to retire my Brooks Ghost 7 shoes - but I have almost put 400 miles on them!!

6.  Finish My Poncho (knitting project):
One of the glorious things about Molly being in town last weekend was the chance to be reminded of how much I enjoy knitting!  In my quest to read more and blog and other things, I had not picked up my knitting needles since Christmas!  So that has changed and I hope that I can finish this poncho before May 1st.  Of course, it will be a gift!  Anyone interested?

7.  Drink a Green Smoothie Every Day:
I had begun to do this in April with the 30 Day Green Smoothie Challenge as posed by the women of Simple Green Smoothies.  Then I did a few days of Atkins Induction and laid off most carbs.  But now I think I want my green smoothies back!  Especially if I'm gonna do this intermittent fasting thing.  Yikes!

8.  Read a New Book (but not Rich Roll's new cookbook!):
It's not that I don't want to read Rich Roll/Julie Piatt's new book THE PLANTPOWER WAY, because I totally will.  And I pre-ordered three of them, for crying out loud!  But I need to read something more than just food and cooking books right now - I need to branch out.  I have three books on my shelf at work that are calling to me: REAL HAPPINESS AT WORK; THE GIFTS OF IMPERFECTION; and THE ONE MINUTE MANAGER BALANCES WORK AND LIFE.  Any suggestions?  I'll make my decision by Friday :)

9.  Run a 31 minute 5K:
Because I feel like I need to be faster.  And granted - a 31 minute 5K is NOT fast.  But I think if I can make that happen before the end of the month, there's hope for me.  I know, silly.

10.  Have a daily moment of gratitude:
One of Rich Roll's recent guests talked about his morning routine - what he does before he even puts his feet on the ground from the bed!  He takes a few deep LONG breaths, and then has a moment of gratitude.  I feel like I need that in my life right now.  There's so much keeping my mind occupied - and I need to be mindful of the simple things that keep me going and make me happy.  Like sharing my story :)  That's my moment of gratitude for today.

So - that's my to-do list from today, April 21st, through April 30th.  Let's see if I can make them all happen!  WOO HOO!!!

I want some Altra shoes, too. Todd swears by them! And I bet you'll run a 31 minute 5K in no time!
